Through new studies and research, the benefits of Chiropractic care for infants and children continues to demonstrate that not only is chiropractic for pain relief but for a variety of health benefits for all ages.
A 2019 study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics called "Maternal Report of Outcomes of Chiropractic Care for Infants" addressed infants and chiropractic care. The purpose of the study was to investigate the report by mothers of their infants' before and after a trial of chiropractic care.
In all, 2001 mothers completed intake questionnaires and 1092 completed follow-up forms.
Statistically significant improvements were reported across all aspects of infant behavior studied.
Areas of improvement included feeding problems, sleep issues, excessive crying, problems with supine sleep position, infant pain, restricted cervical range of motion, and time performing in prone positioning.
Maternal ratings of depression, anxiety, and satisfaction with motherhood also demonstrated statistically significant improvement.
In total, 82% reported definite improvement of their infants on a global impression of change scale.
No adverse events were reported. In this study, mothers reported that chiropractic care for their infants was effective, safe, and cost-effective.
Another study by Viola Frymann demonstrated that 90% of newborns suffered strain through the neck and cranial areas following birth trauma. Frymann MD, studied more than 1500 babies across an 8-year period. She examined all the babies within the first 24 hours to 5 days of birth. The study revealed that approximately:
10% of the newborn babies had perfect, freely mobile skulls or cranial mechanisms.
10% had severe trauma to the head, evident to even untrained observers.
The remaining 80% all had some strain patterns in the cranial mechanisms-most of which are not visible to the untrained eye.
